I have been trying to install Office 2024 and get the above message:

I see shadows of Excel 16 and Word 16 icons in the start menu but cannot remove them. I do not see any Office 2016 apps in the installed apps menu.

I have windows 11 installed on the computer.

To resolve the issue with installing Office 2024 and the shadows of Excel 16 and Word 16 icons in the start menu, you can follow these steps:

    1. Uninstall Existing Versions: Since you mentioned not seeing Office 2016 apps in the installed apps menu, it's possible that remnants of previous installations are causing the issue. You can try to uninstall any existing Office products that may not be listed directly.
      • Go to Settings > Apps > Installed apps and look for any Office-related entries. If you find any, uninstall them.
    2. Use the Microsoft Support and Recovery Assistant: If you can't find any Office installations, consider using the Microsoft Support and Recovery Assistant tool. This tool can help fix issues with Office installations and remove remnants of previous versions that might not be visible in the installed apps list.
    3. Restart Your Computer: After uninstalling any remnants, restart your computer to ensure that all changes take effect.
    4. Install Office 2024: Once your computer has restarted, try installing Office 2024 again. You can do this by signing into your Microsoft account and downloading the installer from the Services & subscriptions section.
    5. Check for Installation Issues: If the installation fails again, check if any antivirus software is interfering with the installation process. Temporarily disabling it might help.

By following these steps, you should be able to successfully install Office 2024 on your Windows 11 computer.
