I need to change my birtdate but the screen doesn't allow me to

My birthdate is recorded as my son's and when I go to edit it, the edit screen is grey and does not allow me to type in the boxes

    If your account is being recognized as a Child, you won't be able to change your D.O.B. in your Microsoft account directly.

    Only the Family Organizer has permission to edit the date of birth on a child's account. To do this, the account must first be part of a Microsoft family group.

    1. Open an incognito tab.
    2. Sign in with your Microsoft account (an Adult Account, not a child's) using the link below. If you don't have another account, create a new dummy Adult account and sign in here. https://account.microsoft.com/family/home
    3. Invite the Child account to the Family group.
    4. Accept the invite from the child group.
    5. Once accepted, you will see your child's account profile on the Family safety settings.
    6. Select Manage consent > Edit child's profile info.
    7. Change the D.O.B. to Adult and remove them from the family group.

    Sorry for this frustrating situation that you're experiencing. That greyed-out birthdate screen almost always means Microsoft has classified the account as a child or “needs parental consent,” so it locks the date of birth field to meet legal and safety requirements.

    Here are some suggestions you can try:

    1) Try editing it in the correct profile page (not inside an app)

    Go to the Microsoft profile editor and sign in with the exact account that has the wrong birthdate:

    account.microsoft.com/profile/edit-profile-information

    If the boxes become editable there, change the date and select Save. This works because the web profile page is the main place Microsoft allows profile edits, while some in-app screens stay locked or limited.

    2) If it is still greyed out, use the “adult but flagged as child” path

    On the same Microsoft Support article, open the section like “I’m an adult, but Microsoft thinks I’m a child” and follow the steps. It directs you to start a consent flow via login.live.com and complete consent using an adult Microsoft account. Once consent is properly recorded, Microsoft can unlock the ability for an adult account to correct the birthdate.

    3) If the account is in a Family group, change it from the parent/organizer side

    Sign in with the adult organizer account and manage the child account permissions (commonly through the Family/permissions pages, where you can choose “Edit this child’s personal information”). Child accounts cannot change their own date of birth; the organizer must do it.

    4) If none of the above unlocks it, contact Microsoft Support for an account review

    Use the official Contact Microsoft Support page and request chat or a callback for “account profile” issues. Support can verify consent status and, when appropriate, guide identity or age verification steps that the website cannot complete by itself.
