Dear IT Support Team,

My name is [Moderator note: personal info removed], and I am a student at City Tech. I am currently unable to log in to both my Brightspace and CUNY first accounts because I am having trouble with my authenticator app. For some reason, it is not allowing me to verify my login, and I’m not sure why this is happening.

I am very stressed about this situation because I have an online test scheduled on Brightspace this Sunday, and I need urgent access to my account. I am really worried that I won’t be able to take my exam if this issue is not resolved as soon as possible.

Could you please help me fix this problem at your earliest convenience? I would truly appreciate any assistance you can provide.

Thank you so much for your time and support.

Sincerely,

[Moderator note: personal info removed]

    Dear @Vazira,

Thank you for posting your question in the Microsoft Q&A forum.

Based on your description, I understand how urgent this situation must feel, especially you have an exam this Sunday. Please know you’re not alone in this, and I’ll guide you through every step to get you back in control as quickly as possible.

Since you are using an education account, and your school has an MFA setting for your account, I highly recommend you contact your school IT staff directly so that they may reset your MFA settings. You might also ask whether your MFA can be temporarily disabled to allow an emergency sign-in.

For that reason, only your school IT admins have permission to revoke MFA sessions and require re-registration in Microsoft Entra admin center

For more information and instruction, please ask the school IT Admin to follow the Microsoft Official Guide here: Manage authentication methods for Microsoft Entra multifactor authentication - Microsoft Entra ID | Microsoft Learn

If you do not know who your IT admin is, please follow the information in the Microsoft Document here: Find the administrator for your work or school account

Note: Please understand that as forum moderator, my primary goal is to provide helpful guidance and support through general troubleshooting steps. While I don’t have access to internal systems or test devices required to resolve backend/account issues, I truly appreciate your understanding of these limitations. I genuinely hope the information I share helps guide you in the right direction, and I'm always here to assist as much as I can within my scope.

I hope this information is helpful. Please follow these steps and let me know if it works for you. If not, we can work together to resolve this. If I misunderstand anything, please feel free to reach out.

I'm looking forward for your reply.

To resolve your issue with the authenticator app and regain access to your Brightspace and CUNYfirst accounts, you can try the following steps:

    1. Check for Updates: Ensure that your authenticator app is updated to the latest version available on your device.
    2. Reboot Your Device: Sometimes, simply restarting your device can resolve temporary glitches with apps.
    3. Verify Account Settings: Make sure that your accounts are properly set up in the authenticator app. If you have multiple accounts, ensure you are selecting the correct one.
    4. Use Backup Codes: If you have backup codes provided during the setup of multi-factor authentication (MFA), try using those to log in.
    5. Contact Support: If the above steps do not resolve the issue, you may need to contact your institution's IT support team directly. They can assist you with resetting your MFA settings or provide alternative methods to verify your identity.
    6. Consider Alternative Verification Methods: If available, try using a different verification method such as receiving a text message or phone call for authentication.

Given the urgency of your situation with an upcoming test, I recommend reaching out to your IT support team as soon as possible for immediate assistance.
