    Hi Mvikeli Dlamini,

Thanks for reaching out to Microsoft Q&A Forum. I understand that your space bar is not inserting spaces between words when typing on Windows 10.

Please make sure you already tried the Q&A Assist steps shared above. In addition, please try the following.

Before we proceed, I would like to narrow this down a bit:

1, Does the issue happen in all apps (for example, Notepad, web browsers), or only in a specific application?

2, Does the space bar work correctly when using the On-Screen Keyboard?

In the meantime, you can try these steps:

1, Turn off accessibility typing features that may affect keystrokes

    • Press the Windows key, search for Ease of Access keyboard, and open it
    • Turn off Sticky Keys, Filter Keys, and Toggle Keys if any of them are enabled

2, Check and reset the keyboard input language

    • Press the Windows key, open Settings, then go to Time & Language
    • Select Language and make sure only the intended keyboard/input method is installed
    • Remove any unused keyboard layouts and restart the PC

3, Test with a clean boot to rule out background software conflicts

    • Press Windows + R, type msconfig, and press Enter
    • Under the Services tab, check Hide all Microsoft services, then click Disable all
    • Restart the PC and test the space bar

    4, Run system file checks

    • Press the Windows key, search for Command Prompt, right-click it, and choose Run as administrator
    • Run sfc /scannow and wait for it to complete
    • Restart the computer after the scan finishes

5, Check for pending Windows updates

    • Press the Windows key, open Settings, then go to Windows Update
    • Install any available updates and restart the device

Hello, thank you for reaching out to Microsoft Q&A.

One of the best ways to troubleshoot this is to use an external USB keyboard or another keyboard (wired/wireless) and check whether the spacebar works properly.

This will help us determine whether the problem is with your internal keyboard or not.

If the external keyboard works normally, the problem is likely with your internal keyboard. Switch to another keyboard to resolve the issue permanently.

In the meantime, you can try running the Hardware Troubleshooter or reinstalling the keyboard drivers to see if that makes any difference.

    To run Hardware troubleshooter:

    • Click Windows + R key, run the command below.

    msdt.exe -id DeviceDiagnostic

    • Once the troubleshooter is finished running, restart your computer and test your space bar.

    To reinstall keyboard drivers:

    • Open the Device Manager.
    • Expand the arrow next to Keyboards.
    • Right-click your keyboard driver, select uninstall device, select the attempt to remove the driver software for this check box, and click ok.
    • Uninstall all of them in the lists, and restart your computer.
    • Test your keyboard space bar when typing.

If you are experiencing issues with the space bar not creating spaces between words while typing, it could be due to several factors. Here are some troubleshooting steps you can try:

    1. Check for Debris: Sometimes, debris under the keys can cause intermittent issues. Use compressed air to blow under the space bar and other keys to remove any particles that might be causing the problem.
    2. External Keyboard Test: If you are using a laptop, try connecting an external keyboard. If the external keyboard works fine, the issue may be hardware-related with your laptop's keyboard. If the external keyboard has the same issue, it may be a software or driver problem.
    3. Safe Mode: Boot your computer in Safe Mode. If the space bar works fine in Safe Mode, a third-party application may be interfering with keyboard functionality.
    4. Keyboard Settings: Ensure that your keyboard settings are correctly configured. You can check the typing settings in Windows to ensure that there are no unusual configurations affecting the space bar.

If these steps do not resolve the issue, it may be worth considering a hardware repair or replacement if the keyboard is faulty.
