Cursor keeps jumping to very end of document

Cursor randomly keeps jumping to the end of the document: I've been using Word for years. A new problem I have is that the cursor jumps to the very end of the document instead of just to the next page, where I want it to go. This always happens at the end of a paragraph. I don't want to use the web version of office, as Microsoft has previously suggested as a "fix". This problem is persistent for many users, but Microsoft keeps simply closing the relevant questions/comments, without offering a real fix, so was wondering if anyone out there can help me?

I am having exactly the same problem (and have been a daily MS Word user for decades. The problem showed up with upgrades and access since the beginning of 2026. It makes editing a long document on a laptop or a desktop an absolute nightmare.

I do not believe this is user error (I have done of course all the checks here recommended) but a glitch in the software related to the overbearing presence of AI assistance in the software, which I have also had to disable repeatedly, since it thinks it knows more about my work than I do and keep introducing errors.

I would love to know how to disable the AI assistant permanently (I do not want this help; I am an experienced writer) and I deeply wish word to be fixed. I do not work online on word because I am often in areas with shaky connections.

PLEASE FIX THIS PROBLEM Microsoft. And stop pretending your users are naive and stupid.

    Hello,

First I need to check if something is triggering the Ctrl+End shortcut command without your intent. Are you using a laptop? Sometimes palms brushing the touchpad while hitting Enter can cause the cursor to fly to the end of the document.

To rule out software interference, try opening Word in Safe Mode. Hold down the Ctrl key on your keyboard and double-click the Word shortcut. If the jumping stops in Safe Mode, it is likely a plugin or add-in causing the issue.

Let me know if that makes a difference.

The issue of the cursor jumping to the end of the document in Microsoft Word can be frustrating. While the specific cause of this behavior isn't detailed in the provided context, it is often related to settings or conflicts with other applications. Here are a few steps you can try to troubleshoot the problem:

    1. Check for Conflicting Software: Sometimes, other applications, especially those that have overlay features (like Discord), can interfere with Word. If you have any such applications running, try disabling them to see if it resolves the issue.
    2. Update Microsoft Word: Ensure that you are using the latest version of Word. Updates often include bug fixes that might resolve issues like this one.
    3. Adjust Settings: Look into your Word settings to see if there are any options related to text selection or cursor behavior that might be causing this.
    4. Repair Office: If the issue persists, consider repairing your Office installation through the Control Panel or the Office application settings.
    5. Reset Preferences: Sometimes resetting Word preferences can help resolve strange behaviors. This can be done by renaming the Normal template or deleting specific preference files.

If these steps do not resolve the issue, you may want to check Microsoft support forums for similar cases or report the problem directly to Microsoft for further assistance.
