I have some original Microsoft Wireless adapters for monitors and they are working pretty well. The only problem the app from Microsoft doesn't work it crashes the moment you try to connect to an adapter. Have anyone a solution for this? I do not care for firmware updates but i still want to change the names that the adapters showing.

Thank you

    Hi @Brindau, Liviu ,
I found a solution that worked for me. I tested it on three PCs that had the same problem.

Go to Settings → Privacy & Security → Location, enable Location Services, and then allow the Wireless Display Adapter app.

Hope it works for everyone else as well.

    Hello Brindau, Liviu,

    Welcome to Microsoft Q&A forum.

Before we proceed, I'd like to ask a few questions to better understand the situation.

    • May I know what type of crash it is? A Bluescreen or only the apps hang and crash?
    • Do you have any logs in the Event Viewer regarding the crash?
    • Does this happen when you open it before plugging the adapter in or it happen when you have the adapter already plugged in when open it?

In the meantime, you can try those fixes.

    • Go to Settings > Apps > Installed apps.
    • Click the ellipsis symbol next to the apps name and select "Advanced Settings".
    • Select "Repair" and try open the apps again.
    • If that doesn't work, select "Reset" and restart your PC.

If the Microsoft Wireless Display Adapter app is crashing when you try to connect to an adapter, there are a few troubleshooting steps you can take:

    1. Check Drivers: Ensure that the drivers for your wireless display adapter are up to date. You can do this by going to Device Manager, selecting Network Adapters, and checking for updates on your Wi-Fi adapter and video adapter.
    2. Check Firewall Settings: The Windows firewall may block Miracast traffic. You can temporarily disable the firewall to see if that resolves the issue. If it does, you can add exceptions for the necessary executables.
    3. Event Logs: Check the Event logs for any Miracast-related errors. These logs can provide insights into what might be causing the app to crash.
    4. Group Policy Settings: If your device is domain-joined, ensure that Group Policy settings are not blocking Miracast. You can check this by running rsop.msc and reviewing the wireless network policies.
    5. Reinstall the App: Sometimes, simply uninstalling and reinstalling the Wireless Display Adapter app can resolve crashing issues.

Regarding changing the names that the adapters show, this typically requires access to the settings within the app or the device settings, which may not be directly related to the crashing issue.

If these steps do not resolve the issue, consider reaching out to Microsoft support for further assistance.
