How Do I Get My Outlook Inbox Email Sorted By Date

My Outlook Email inbox has gotten messed up. They are no longer sorted by date. On the left top side of the screen, I select Filter. I think that was where I used to see an option to sort, but that option is not there. Also, for each email it shows a "description" of the email before the actual email. How do I get rid of that "description" so only the actual email is shown.

Hello Bob Olson, thanks for posting in the community.

You can check the article Sort email messages in Outlook to follow the exact steps for sorting your emails by date, whether you are using the New Outlook or the classic version. If the view still looks wrong or the sorting options do not appear, you can also reset all custom views by running the command outlook.exe /cleanviews, which returns Outlook to the default view settings based on Microsoft’s troubleshooting guidance.

    Kind regards.

To sort your Outlook inbox emails by date, follow these steps:

    1. In your Outlook inbox, look for the View tab in the ribbon at the top of the screen.
    2. In the Current View area, select View Settings.
    3. From there, you can adjust the sorting options. Look for the Sort option and choose to sort by Date.

Regarding the "description" that appears before the actual email, you can resolve this issue by changing the view settings. Select the Junk Mail folder, then in the top right corner, select By Date and choose Date. This should clear up the issue of having two subject lines on the same email.

If you still see unwanted descriptions, check the filtering options in the View Settings to ensure nothing is set to display additional information that you do not want.
