CHANGING DOB AND COUNTRY OF ADULT ACCOUNT - SHOWING 'REMOVE CONSENT' ERROR POP UP

My account, an adult one, is set to the incorrect country/region as well as has an incorrect date of birth. The edit button does show up and bring a pop up that allows me to put my correct date of birth and country/origin, but when I click save, the pop up shows this writing "You are managing one or more child accounts. Before you change your profile information, you need to [remove consent](https://account.live.com/mykids.aspx"remove consent") for those child accounts.".

My account was created the year I was born, so was a child account but I am now an adult. The account was also, up until recently, part of a Family Group, but I removed myself from it, hoping it would solve this issue, and that I would now be able to edit the above without consent. However the popup with the error still shows.

Yes please if you could guide me through this that would be amazing.

One thing to add though is that when I was part of the old family group that I recently left, I wasn't a parent or guardian. It was a child account that became an adult one, but in that group I'm not admin or anything.

    Thank you for your help

    Hi,

Thank you for sharing your question. I understand how frustrating it is to finally be an adult account but still see errors that prevent you from correcting your personal information.

It can be confusing when the system continues to treat your profile as though you are managing child accounts even after leaving a Family Group, especially when you just want your information to be accurate.

This happens because Microsoft still detects that your account once acted as a parent or guardian for one or more child accounts, and those consent records remain active even if you are no longer in a Family Group. According to Microsoft Q&A guidance, you must remove or revoke any remaining child‑account consents before the system will allow updates to your date of birth or country. Even if the Family Group is deleted, those consent flags can still exist and must be cleared through the Microsoft child‑account management page. Similar guidance from another Microsoft Q&A thread explains that you should visit your Microsoft Account > Family settings and ensure all child accounts have had their parental consent fully revoked before attempting to edit your profile again. Once all remaining child‑consent records are removed, the system will allow you to save your corrected date of birth and country without showing the “remove consent” error.

Would you like me to guide you step‑by‑step through checking for and removing any leftover child‑consent records?

Please feel free to follow up with any questions or updates so I can continue helping you resolve this fully.

    I hope this helps.

    Best Regards,

    Noel
