I recently received a notificaton of malicious activity in my account. It happened in August but received a notification in Feb. I would like to understand why.

    Hello Deepak Shenoy,

Thank you for reaching out to Microsoft Q&A forum

To answer why Microsoft can notify you months later:

Microsoft security systems don’t rely only on real‑time rules. Some alerts are generated after patterns are analyzed over time (for example, unusual sign‑in behavior, token abuse, or correlated activity across accounts).

When a past event is later re‑classified as risky or malicious, notifications can be triggered well after the original date.

Just to be safe, I suggest you review recent activity at https://account.microsoft.com/security

Feel free reply back to this post if you have any more questions or issues, I'll be happy to help.
