    Hi Nii Sowah Bortey,

Thanks for reaching out to Microsoft Q&A Forum. I understand that your camera turns on but no image appears on the screen in Windows.

Please make sure you already tried the Q&A Assist steps. In addition, please help clarify a couple of things so we can narrow this down correctly:

    • Is this the built‑in webcam on your Windows device or an external USB camera?
    • Does the issue happen in all apps (for example, Camera app and video calls) or only in one specific app?

In the meantime, you can try these steps:

1, Test the camera using the built‑in Camera app

    • Open Start and search for Camera
    • Check whether the preview shows a black screen or no image at all

    2, Reset the Camera app

    • Open Settings
    • Go to Apps then Installed apps
    • Find Camera, select Advanced options, then choose Repair
    • If the issue continues, try Reset

3, Check and refresh the camera driver

    • Open Device Manager
    • Expand Cameras or Imaging devices
    • Right‑click your camera and select Disable device, then restart the PC and enable it again

4, Roll back or update the camera driver

    • In Device Manager, right‑click the camera and select Properties
    • Open the Driver tab
    • If Roll Back Driver is available, select it
    • If not, select Update driver and choose Search automatically for drivers

    5, Check for Windows updates

    • Open Settings
    • Go to Windows Update
    • Install any pending updates and restart the device

    1

Look at the function keys (F1 - F12) on your keyboard, if one of them has a camera icon, press that key or Fn + that key to unlock the webcam.

    2

If that was not the problem, look closely at the camera lens above your screen, is there a small privacy slider that needs to be opened to access the webcam?

    3

    Open the Settings App.

Go to Privacy & Security - Camera.

Ensure all apps have permission to access your webcam.

If your camera is on but displaying no image, here are some steps you can take to troubleshoot the issue:

    1. Check the Camera Connection: Ensure that the camera is securely connected to your device. If it requires an external power supply, make sure that it is plugged in.
    2. Camera Configuration: Verify that the camera is not mistakenly configured as a content camera in any applications you are using, such as Teams. You may need to set it back to the default camera setting.
    3. Privacy Slider: Look for a privacy slider on the camera itself (if applicable) and ensure it is open to allow access to the camera.
    4. Driver Issues: If the camera is not recognized, check the Device Manager to ensure that the camera drivers are installed correctly. If necessary, download and reinstall the latest drivers from the manufacturer's website.
    5. USB Issues: If you are using a USB camera, check the USB cable for any damage and ensure it is securely connected. Avoid using USB extenders if possible, as they can cause issues with video devices.
    6. Power Supply: Many cameras require an external power supply, so double-check that it is connected properly.

If these steps do not resolve the issue, you may want to consult the manufacturer's support resources for further assistance.
