Hi Nii Sowah Bortey,
Thanks for reaching out to Microsoft Q&A Forum. I understand that your camera turns on but no image appears on the screen in Windows.
Please make sure you already tried the Q&A Assist steps. In addition, please help clarify a couple of things so we can narrow this down correctly:
- Is this the built‑in webcam on your Windows device or an external USB camera?
- Does the issue happen in all apps (for example, Camera app and video calls) or only in one specific app?
In the meantime, you can try these steps:
1, Test the camera using the built‑in Camera app
- Open Start and search for Camera
- Check whether the preview shows a black screen or no image at all
2, Reset the Camera app
- Open Settings
- Go to Apps then Installed apps
- Find Camera, select Advanced options, then choose Repair
- If the issue continues, try Reset
3, Check and refresh the camera driver
- Open Device Manager
- Expand Cameras or Imaging devices
- Right‑click your camera and select Disable device, then restart the PC and enable it again
4, Roll back or update the camera driver
- In Device Manager, right‑click the camera and select Properties
- Open the Driver tab
- If Roll Back Driver is available, select it
- If not, select Update driver and choose Search automatically for drivers
5, Check for Windows updates
- Open Settings
- Go to Windows Update
- Install any pending updates and restart the device
