Microsoft 365 features that help users manage their subscriptions, account settings, and billing information.
Hello Abby Mulcahy,
Thank you for posting your question in the Microsoft Q&A forum!
I understand that you are having issue with logging in your Microsoft account. I truly understand how you feel. Let me assist you go through this situation.
Here are my suggestions for you:
Fix 1: Re‑sign in to the school account inside Authenticator
This fixes the “app asking for a code from itself” issue. On your phone (iOS or Android):
- Open Microsoft Authenticator
- If you see your school account with “Action required” or “Sign in”, tap it
- Select Sign in
- Enter your school email and password
- Complete any verification it offers (email, phone, or approval)
This reconnects Authenticator to your school account so it can approve sign‑ins again
Fix 2: Remove and re‑add the school account in Authenticator
If Fix 1 doesn’t appear or fails, this is the next official step. On your phone:
- Open Microsoft Authenticator
- Select your school account
- Remove it from the app
- On a browser, sign in to your school account’s Security info page
- Add Microsoft Authenticator again and scan the QR code
Please note:
If you cannot get past sign‑in at all, based on Microsoft document: "Support cannot bypass MFA for work or school accounts — your school’s IT help desk must reset MFA"
That means:
- Microsoft Support cannot unlock it for you
- Only your college IT department can clear or reset your authentication methods. Please contact them directly for further help.
I hope this will help with your situation. Please feel free to reach back if you have further update or more questions.
Best Regards,
