I have just purchased a new phone and am struggling to set up the Outlook app. I keep receiving the attached error despite putting my details in. I am having no issues logging in via the browser but would obviously prefer to have the app up and running our of convenience.

Please can someone assist?

Hi, I'm John! I will help you with this.

To help narrow down the issue:

    1. Is this a personal Microsoft account (like Outlook.com/Hotmail) or a work/school account?
    2. What is the exact error message showing in the app?

In the meantime, if you haven’t already:

    • Make sure the Outlook app is fully updated from the app store.
    • Close the app completely, then reopen it and try again.
    • If it still fails, uninstall the Outlook app, restart the phone, then reinstall it fresh and try signing in again.
    • If you’re using a work/school account, check if your organization requires an Authenticator app or device registration.

If the issue persists, please provide more details by answering my questions.

    Regards,

    John J.D.

If you are able to log in to your Outlook account via the browser but are experiencing issues with the Outlook app on your new phone, there are a few steps you can take to troubleshoot the problem:

    1. Check for Updates: Ensure that the Outlook app is updated to the latest version available in the app store.
    2. Clear App Cache: If you're using Android, go to your phone's settings, find the Outlook app, and clear its cache. This can resolve issues related to stored data.
    3. Reinstall the App: Uninstall the Outlook app and then reinstall it. This can help reset any configurations that may be causing the issue.
    4. Check Internet Connection: Ensure that your phone has a stable internet connection, either through Wi-Fi or mobile data.
    5. Use the Correct Credentials: Double-check that you are entering the correct email address and password. Sometimes, autofill can enter incorrect information.
    6. Enable Permissions: Make sure that the Outlook app has the necessary permissions to access your device's features, such as the internet and notifications.

If these steps do not resolve the issue, you may want to consult Microsoft support for further assistance.
