I’m experiencing what appears to be mailbox content/index corruption in my Outlook.com (Hotmail) account.
Issue description:
- New incoming emails briefly display the correct content.
After a few seconds (without refreshing), the message body changes.
The body is replaced with an old sextortion spam email that I previously received.
The message header (sender, subject, timestamp) remains correct.
There is no bounce, no forwarding, and no new email created.
The replaced content is always the same old spam template message.
Important details:
This occurs in Outlook on the web and in the Outlook desktop app.
I have changed my password.
MFA is enabled.
All rules, sweep rules, forwarding, and connected accounts have been removed.
No suspicious sign-ins appear in account activity.
Local malware scan is clean.
This does not appear to be an active compromise. It looks like the body of a previously received spam message is being incorrectly rendered over new messages.
Given that rules cannot modify message bodies, I suspect mailbox index/database corruption.
Can a technician:
Reindex my mailbox
Reset the mailbox database
Or escalate this to the Outlook.com backend team for mailbox repair?
I can provide additional diagnostic details if needed.
Thank you.
