Why is Caps-lock causing docs to save twice

When I am attempting to download a pdf to my file explorer from Microsoft Edge using ctrl+s, if caps lock is enabled the pdf will attempt to save twice. The first will save with either the original name or the edited name depending on if I change it, but the file explorer window will reappear a second or two after I click save on the first one with the original name(2). It’s not a massive issue but as I often forget to turn caps-lock off it can be annoying.

Hello Dyllanbw, welcome to Microsoft Q&A forum.

I understand the situation. Please try these steps to narrow down the cause:

Test in Edge InPrivate mode (Ctrl+Shift+N): If it doesn't happen in InPrivate, it's likely an extension conflict. Try disabling extensions one by one to identify the culprit.

Try a different browser (Chrome, Firefox) with the same PDF: If it doesn't happen in another browser, it's Edge-specific. Try resetting Edge settings at edge://settings/reset.

Test with a different keyboard: Try an external keyboard if using laptop keyboard, or vice versa. If the issue only happens with one keyboard, it's hardware/driver related.

Update your keyboard driver in Device Manager. Also check if you have any keyboard software installed (Logitech Options, Razer Synapse, etc.) that might be intercepting keystrokes with your original keyboard.

Let me know what you find,

The issue you're experiencing with the Caps Lock key causing the PDF to save twice when using Ctrl+S in Microsoft Edge may be related to how the keyboard input is interpreted during the save process. When Caps Lock is enabled, it can sometimes lead to unexpected behavior in applications, including duplicate save prompts.

To potentially mitigate this issue, you can try the following:

    1. Disable the Caps Lock key's effect in AutoCorrect options: If you're using Microsoft Word or other Office applications, you can disable the "Correct accidental usage of cAPs LOCK key" option in the AutoCorrect settings. This might help in situations where the Caps Lock key is inadvertently affecting your commands.
    2. Minimize the remote desktop session: If you're working in a remote desktop environment, minimizing the session and then clicking back into it can sometimes help sync the keyboard state correctly.

If these suggestions do not resolve the issue, it may be beneficial to check for updates to Microsoft Edge or your operating system, as software updates can often fix bugs related to keyboard input and application behavior.
