Microsoft 365 features that help users manage their subscriptions, account settings, and billing information.
Dear @Roberto Billo,
Thank you for reaching out to Microsoft Q&A forum.
I understand that you accidentally made a payment for the wrong Microsoft account, and I can imagine how frustrating this must be, especially with your important documents locked due to the OneDrive storage issue. As a forum moderator, I genuinely wish I could directly access your account or delve into the backend systems and fix this for you. However, our role here is limited to providing general guidance and solutions that can be applied by users.
The issue is that Microsoft’s billing systems do not support the direct transfer of a subscription from a personal account to a business/tenant account. This means that, even though the payment was successful, the license is locked to the wrong account and cannot be moved.
To resolve this issue, a "Refund and Re-purchase" workflow is required to fix the licensing mismatch. To rectify the situation, you must follow this specific sequence to ensure that your university access remains unaffected while restoring the business account.
1.Cancel and Refund the Personal Subscription
Since you already have educational access for the next three years, the paid subscription on your @live.it account is no longer necessary.
- Sign in to account.microsoft.com/services using the @live.it address.
- Locate the accidental subscription and select Manage.
- Choose Cancel subscription. If you have recently paid, you should see an option for "Cancel now and get a refund."
- Note: This will not delete your university data; those are separate licenses managed by your institution.
2.Re-purchase on the Business Account
- Sign out completely and log in using business account.
- Go to the Microsoft 365 Business page.
- Purchase the appropriate plan. As soon as the transaction is complete, the OneDrive storage quota will be restored.
Because the business account currently lacks access to its storage, your wife's documents are in a "read-only" or "locked" state. To regain access while waiting for a refund to process:
- Microsoft provides a "One-month free trial" for business accounts. If the account hasn't used one recently, you can activate the trial on the business account immediately to unlock the OneDrive files while you sort out the permanent billing.
- Once the new subscription is active, ensure the OneDrive client on her computer is signed in with the business email to trigger the storage re-validation.
I hope this information is helpful. Please follow these steps and let me know if it works for you. If not, we can work together to resolve this. Thank you for your patience and understanding. If you have any questions or need further assistance, please feel free to share them in the comments so I can continue to support you. I'm looking forward to your reply.
