I'm trying to close an old microsoft account and am getting the attached error popup. Following the link "Go to my work organization" and attempting to sign in with the same microsoft account I am unable to sign in and get told "You can't sign in with a personal account here. Use a work/school account instead".
I have no idea what work/school account it thinks is associated with this personal account. There is no evidence in my dashboard of organization ties (nor should there be as this has exclusively ever been a personal account)
Microsoft 365 features that help users manage their subscriptions, account settings, and billing information.
Please sign into https://portal.azure.com
Then click on Manage Entra ID
Then click on Manage tenants.
Do you see the organization listed? If so, check th box and click on "Leave".
If you cannot leave even via this method, tell me the exact error message
When I log in there I’m presented with this error
Yikes. I was hoping you wouldn't hit that error.
This means the tenant your account used to associated with, is no longer an active tenant.
This is gray area that would prevent your account from leaving the organization and it is an internally known issue by Microsoft. Currently there's no known solution unfortunately.
