Microsoft 365 features that help users manage their subscriptions, account settings, and billing information.
Hello Paulette Smithwrick,
Thank you for reaching out in the Microsoft Q&A forum.
I understand how concerning it feels to see a renewal charge and then lose access to Word even though your Microsoft 365 Personal subscription shows as paid and renewed.
From what you described, the payment went through but the subscription status on the account may not have synchronized correctly, which can temporarily prevent Word from recognizing the active license. Duplicate charges can also occur if multiple payment attempts were processed, and the billing team can verify this by checking the transaction records.
Please sign in to your Microsoft account and confirm that only one Microsoft 365 Personal subscription appears under Services & Subscriptions and that it shows as Active. If the product shows as expired or inactive, select the subscription and refresh the license by signing out of all Office apps, restarting the device, and signing back in using the same account listed under your subscription.
About your duplicate payment, you must contact Microsoft support directly:
- Go to Contact - Microsoft and sign in to your account.
- In the search box, enter "Billing and Payment."
- Click "Get Help" and select "Contact Support".
- Select Microsoft 365 and Office as the products and services, and select Billing and Payment Updates as the category.
- Click "Confirm".
- You can choose to chat with a support specialist.
Note: The live chat support team is only available during certain business hours. So if the last window says you're unavailable, try opening it again the next day. If you prefer phone support, you can leave your phone number. That way, they'll be able to call you and help.
