I believe my email was hacked. An email was sent to all of my contact. I was able to reset the password and I can sign in now but I am not getting any new emails. I can send an email though. How do I get the account unblocked so that I get new emails?

Hi, I'm John! I will help you with this.

To help narrow down the issue:

Do you currently have full access to your Outlook account (you can sign in normally and see your inbox and settings)? Please check signing in online at https://account.microsoft.com let me know how it goes.

Also, can you please check if your Outlook (Attachments) storage is full?

If your mailbox is near or over the storage limit, new emails might not arrive in your inbox https://onedrive.live.com/managestorage in the same page, please check your OneDrive storage as it's linked to your Microsoft account and can sometimes affect email services if it's full.

To be safe, I recommend the following steps:

Check your account rules and forwarding settings, hackers create rules that automatically forward or delete emails. You can do this in Outlook settings under Mail > Rules and Forwarding. https://support.microsoft.com/office/manage-email-messages-by-using-rules-in-outlook-c24f5dea-9465-4df4-ad17-a50704d66c59

Just to be safe, I’d recommend to sign out everywhere. Visit: https://account.live.com/proofs/manage/additional Scroll down to Sign me out and select "Sign me out".

And changing your password again and enabling two-step verification if you haven’t already. This will add an extra layer of security to prevent future unauthorized access.

Click "Add comment" to let me know.

    Regards,

    John J.D.

If your email account has been hacked and you are not receiving new emails after resetting your password, it is possible that the hacker may have set up rules or forwarding that are affecting your email delivery. Here are some steps you can take to troubleshoot and potentially resolve the issue:

    1. Check for Rules: Sign in to your Outlook account and check the settings for any suspicious rules that may have been created. Go to Settings → Mail → Rules and delete any rules that look unfamiliar or suspicious.
    2. Check Forwarding Settings: Also, check if there are any unknown forwarding addresses set up that could be redirecting your emails. Go to Mail → Forwarding and remove any addresses you do not recognize.
    3. Account Security: Ensure that you have secured your account by enabling Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) and reviewing any app permissions to revoke access from any suspicious applications.
    4. Monitor Activity: Keep an eye on your sign-in logs for any suspicious activity that might indicate ongoing unauthorized access.
    5. Contact Support: If you continue to have issues, consider reaching out to Microsoft support for further assistance in recovering your account and ensuring it is secure.

By following these steps, you should be able to regain control over your email account and start receiving new emails again.
