Hello ADRMediator, thank you for reaching out to the Q&A Forum and sorry for late reply.

If you're using Access 2003 or earlier versions (an .mdb file), please refer to this article: Set or change Access 2003 user-level security in current Access versions

And please note that user‑level security is no longer supported for databases created in Access 2007 or later (.accdb). If you convert an .mdb file to .accdb, Access will remove all existing user‑level security settings.

Additionally, I’d like to share that recent updates to Microsoft Access have introduced tighter security around SQL queries referencing external databases, which may contribute to the behavior you're seeing. I recommend reviewing the article “Query Reference to Remote Database Fails” to check whether it applies to your scenario.

You may also refer to this case where I discussed unblocking a Microsoft Access file, including the use of Trusted Locations. Please check whether the information there applies to your situation. I want to unblock my Microsoft Access File

If the issue persists, please provide a screenshot of the error along with additional details about your scenario, such as the steps you were performing, how the file was opened, and when exactly the error appears, so I can assist you more accurately.

I look forward to your reply.

To change security access for your user account, you need to ensure that you have the appropriate permissions. If you are encountering an error stating that you do not have the authority to change security settings, consider the following steps:

    1. Check User Group Membership: Ensure that your user account is part of a group that has the rights to modify security settings. You may need to belong to an administrative group or have specific permissions assigned.
    2. Review Group Policy Settings: If your organization employs Group Policy, these settings may override local permissions. You should contact your system administrator to verify if any Group Policy settings are restricting your access.
    3. Local Security Policy: If you have access to the Local Security Policy on your computer, navigate to User Rights Assignment to confirm whether your account has the necessary permissions to change security settings.

If you find that you lack the required permissions, it is advisable to reach out to your IT department or system administrator to request the necessary access or to assist you in making the changes.
