    Hi,

KB5074828 is a January optional preview update that you can safely skip. Preview updates are basically test releases before the full version is rolled out on the second Tuesday of the following month.

If you’ve already installed all other updates and this is the only one pending, go to the Windows Update page and turn off the option “Get the latest updates as soon as they’re available,” then restart your computer.

This will stop Windows from automatically downloading optional preview updates and will leave only the regular monthly updates.

The error code 0xca00a005 during a Windows Update typically indicates an issue with the update process, which could be related to network connectivity, corrupted update files, or issues with the Windows Update service itself. Here are some steps you can take to troubleshoot this error:

    1. Check Network Connection: Ensure that your internet connection is stable and that you can access other websites. Sometimes, a poor connection can cause download errors.
    2. Run Windows Update Troubleshooter: Although you mentioned that the troubleshooter failed to run, if you can get it to work, it can help identify and fix issues automatically.
    3. Clear Windows Update Cache: You can try clearing the Windows Update cache. To do this, stop the Windows Update service, delete the contents of the C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution\Download folder, and then restart the service.
    4. Check for Corrupted Files: Run the System File Checker tool by executing sfc /scannow in an elevated Command Prompt. This will check for and repair any corrupted system files that might be causing the issue.
    5. Verify TLS Settings: Ensure that TLS 1.2 is enabled on your system, as it is required for secure connections to Windows Update servers. You can check this in the registry under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\SecurityProviders\SCHANNEL\Protocols\TLS 1.2\Server.
    6. Check for Proxy Settings: If you are using a proxy server, ensure that it is configured correctly and not blocking Windows Update traffic.

If these steps do not resolve the issue, you may want to check the Windows Update logs for more detailed error codes that could provide further insight into the problem.
