I have been editing my Microsoft Word document all day, and after refreshing the page, all my recent edits have vanished. I looked back at the edit history, and it says I haven't made any edits today.

Were you editing the document using Word on the web or the Word desktop application?
Was AutoSave turned on while you were editing the document?

In the meantime, to help isolate the issue, I recommend creating a new blank Word document, making a few test edits, and then clicking Save. Please check whether the same behavior occurs again. This will help determine whether the issue is document‑specific or related to the editing environment.

If AutoSave was enabled, you may still be able to recover your changes by checking Version History, as Word automatically stores previous versions when files are saved to OneDrive or SharePoint. Additionally, Microsoft provides several recovery options for unsaved or missing content, which are outlined in the following article: How to recover unsaved Word documents

In some cases, edits may disappear if the document was not saved correctly or if a sync interruption occurred during editing (for example, after refreshing the page). This can cause recent changes not to be recorded in the file history.

I was editing the document using Word on the web. I tried using the transcribe feature within the Word document, and it froze, so I refreshed it, and I got a pop-up that said unsaved edits may be lost, but I assumed it would be fine since the document has been saved. That's when I reopened the documents, and all edits I made from today (2/21/2026) were gone, even from the document editing history. I know AutoSave was turned on while I was editing the document because when I reopened the document, it said AutoSave was enabled, and additional edits I made after that were saved in the document history.

I followed the instructions in the article you shared earlier and the View previous versions of Office files article, and I still cannot see any edits I made before I refreshed my Word document yesterday.

Could you please confirm whether you are using a work/school account or a personal account? As you have posted this thread under the Education tag, I recommend reaching out to your school’s IT administrator and asking them to help raise a support ticket on your behalf. This will allow a Microsoft Support agent to conduct a more thorough investigation and provide guidance that is more accurate and relevant to your situation.

The Global Admin can create a support ticket by sign in to the Microsoft 365 Admin Center > Support > Help & Support.

I was editing the Word document with my school email. I've reached out to my school's IT help desk, and they said they can't do anything for me since there's no record of my edits from Saturday (2/21/2026). Is there any way you can help me raise a support ticket directly to a Microsoft Support agent to help me further? I also tried to use this link https://admin.microsoft.com/#/support/requests to create a support ticket, but I don't have access through my school email account.
