I am trying to use the Mendeley cite add-in in word (macOS) but I see a restriction that Microsoft 365 has been configured to prevent individual acquisition and execution of Microsoft add-ins

    Hi, Kipkorir araap Sigi Lang'at

    Welcome to Microsoft Q&A forum.

That message usually appears when Word thinks your Microsoft 365 sign-in is governed by an organization policy that blocks Office Store add-ins, even if you personally pay for Microsoft 365.

You can try signing out of Word completely, then sign back in with only your personal Microsoft account.

On Mac, in Word’s top menu choose Word > Sign out, quit Word, then reopen and sign in again. It forces Word to stop using any “managed” identity context that can silently apply add-in restrictions.

Hope this helps. Feel free to get back if you need further assistance.

I am subscribed to Microsoft 365 individually and not through an organisation

If you are encountering a restriction that prevents the use of the Mendeley Cite add-in in Word on macOS, it may be due to your Microsoft 365 configuration. Specifically, the error message indicates that Microsoft 365 has been set up to prevent individual acquisition and execution of Microsoft add-ins. This can happen if your organization has configured settings that restrict the use of add-ins from the Office Store or other sources.

To resolve this issue, you may need to contact your IT administrator to check the Group Policy settings or other configurations that might be preventing the use of add-ins. They can adjust the settings to allow you to use Mendeley Cite and other add-ins as needed.

Additionally, ensure that you are using a compatible version of Word, as Mendeley Cite supports Word on iPad, Word 2016 or later on Windows, Word 2016 or later on Mac, and Word on the web.
