How do you get an actual agent (chat or phone) to help

My hotmail was hacked/compromised. I went through the steps of changing my password and spoke with a Microsoft support rep who assured me my account looked good/safe. My issue now is that the language was changed on my hotmail and I don't know how to change it back. I was told I need to speak with and Outlook agent specifically for that. But when I went to support, I was taken to links of articles to help me change the language, which I can't because I don't know the language my account was changed to and thus, I can't read it menu options to even find the help option. Any help/insight anyone has on this would be greatly appreciated.

    Hi TH,

Welcome to the Microsoft Q&A forum. I understand how frustrating this situation is, especially after already securing your Hotmail account and then being locked out of basic settings because the language was changed to one you can’t read.

Since this is a user‑to‑user forum, there’s no direct access here to change account settings or override security protections. However, there are two practical ways to move forward - one immediate workaround and one escalation path to reach a real Microsoft support agent.

1, Change the language using a browser workaround

Even if the Outlook.com interface is in an unfamiliar language, you can still change it by:

    1. Signing in to Outlook.com using a desktop browser.
    2. Using your browser’s built‑in translation feature (for example, “Translate to English”).
    3. Opening Settings (gear icon) > General > Language and time, then selecting your preferred language and saving.

If navigating Outlook itself is too difficult, you can also change the display language at the Microsoft account level:

    • Go to the Microsoft account profile page while signed in.
    • Use browser translation if needed.
    • Change the Display language, then sign out and back into Outlook.com.

This usually restores the interface language without needing support.

2, Contact a live Microsoft Support agent (chat)

If you truly can’t navigate the settings even with translation, live chat is the correct escalation path for personal Microsoft accounts:

    1. Visit the Microsoft Support contact page: Contact - Microsoft Support
    2. In the search bar provided on the page, type "Account management" and press Enter.
    3. Click on the "Get Help" button that appears.
    4. Scroll down the page until you see and click on the "Contact Support" option.
    5. When prompted to select your product or service, choose "Other Products".
    6. For the category, choose "Manage Account Security".
    7. Look for and click on "Chat with a support agent in your web browser".
    8. When prompted, provide a valid contact email where Microsoft can reach you regarding your case.
    9. Explain your situation clearly: Be concise but provide all the relevant details.

Phone support availability can vary by region and issue, but chat is generally the most reliable way to reach an actual agent for Outlook.com account issues.

I hope this helps you get the language restored and back to using your account normally.
