Dear Microsoft Support Team,

I am contacting you regarding a critical sign-in issue affecting our Microsoft 365 tenant.

I am unable to sign in because Microsoft Authenticator does not generate a verification code during the Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) stage.

Tenant: [Moderator note: personal info removed] Primary sign-in ID: [<mod: PII redacted>.onmicrosoft.com] Secondary alias: [<mod: PII2 redacted>.onmicrosoft.com] Domain: [Moderator note: personal info removed]

Issue Description:

On February 16, 2026, the primary sign-in ID was changed to the secondary alias (<mod: PII2 redacted>.onmicrosoft.com]). After this change, when attempting to log in:

  • The password is accepted successfully.
  • However, authentication fails at the MFA stage.
  • Microsoft Authenticator does not generate a verification code.
  • No alternate authentication methods (SMS, backup codes, secondary email) are available.

As a result, we are completely locked out of the tenant, and no administrative access is currently available.

Troubleshooting Steps Already Attempted:

  1. Reinstalled Microsoft Authenticator multiple times.
  2. Attempted sign-in on different devices and browsers.
  3. Cleared browser cache and used private/incognito mode.
  4. Verified that the correct account is selected in the Authenticator app.
  5. Attempted to use alternative sign-in methods (none available).
  6. Contacted Microsoft Support multiple times and opened the following cases:
    • [Moderator note: personal info removed]

Unfortunately, previous cases were closed with a response stating that no account was found. However, this is not a consumer Microsoft Account issue. This is a Microsoft 365 / Microsoft Entra ID tenant-level Global Administrator lockout under an active paid subscription billed to our corporate credit card.

Impact:

Since February 16, 2026, we have had no administrative control over our Microsoft 365 tenant. This is business-critical and significantly impacts our operational continuity.

Request:

We respectfully request:

  1. Immediate review of this case as a Microsoft 365 / Entra ID issue
  2. Escalation to the appropriate Identity / Security engineering team
  3. Initiation of Tenant Ownership Verification
  4. Forced MFA reset for the affected Global Administrator account

We are prepared to provide DNS TXT verification for pharmapnr.com, business registration documentation, and billing confirmation upon request.

We kindly ask for confirmation that this case will be handled as a tenant-level administrative lockout and not routed to consumer Microsoft Account support.

Thank you for your urgent attention to this matter.

Sincerely, [Moderator note: personal info removed]

    Dear @sungchun hong,

Good day. Thank you for posting your question in the Microsoft Q&A forum!

Based on the ticket IDs you provided, I can see that the support requests were submitted through the personal support channel, which is intended for consumer accounts. As your account is a business account, these tickets were unfortunately raised in the incorrect support channel and therefore cannot be handled appropriately.

    • As a first step, I kindly ask that you contact the Product Support team by phone using the link provided below, so they can assist you directly and ensure your request is routed correctly. For a full list of regional numbers, you can also visit this official page: Customer service phone numbers - Microsoft Support. The support team will assist you as soon as possible.
    • If you can reach Microsoft by phone, use the official Global Customer Service phone numbers list. Choose your region > your country > if your country lines fail or lack English support, select a nearby country (e.g., Singapore) or the United States number, Microsoft explicitly allows this.

If contacting phone support was not successful, I recommend proceeding with the next step to raise a support ticket. Based on my review, your tenant is currently in a locked‑out state, and no administrative access is available at this time.

Since you cannot access the Microsoft Admin Center, you can try set up a new trial tenant and submit your support request:

1.Visit the Microsoft 365 Enterprise Plans page: Go to Compare Office 365 Enterprise Pricing and Plans | Microsoft 365

2.Choose a plan and start a free trial: Select any of the available plans and click "Try for free" to begin the trial setup process.

3.Follow the guided setup: Complete the steps to create a new Microsoft account and a new tenant. This will be a separate and independent Microsoft 365 environment.

4.Access the Microsoft 365 Admin Center: Once the new tenant is created, navigate to https://admin.microsoft.com/AdminPortal/Home#/homepage

5.Go to Support: In the left-hand navigation menu, click on "Support" and then "Help & support."

6.Raise a support ticket: Describe your issue in detail. Crucially, you must clearly state that you are locked out of a different, pre-existing Microsoft 365 tenant where you are the administrator. Provide the following information about your locked account:

    • Your administrator account email address for the tenant.
    • The domain name of your tenant
    • Any error messages you are receiving.
    • Details about the issues you are experiencing (e.g., update banking information).
    • Confirmation that you are the administrator of the tenant.

    7.Submit your ticket:

Follow the prompts to submit your support request. You will likely receive a ticket number for tracking.

    Important notes:

    • This new trial tenant will not give you access to any of the data or settings in your original locked tenant. It is solely a temporary means to contact Microsoft support.
    • Be prepared for Microsoft support to ask for verification of your identity and administrative rights for the locked tenant.
    • The resolution time might be longer as you are contacting support from a different tenant.
    • Remember to cancel the trial subscription for the new tenant once your issue with the original account is resolved to avoid any unintended charges. You can typically do this within the Microsoft 365 Admin Center under "Billing" > "Your products."

I hope these steps will help resolve your issue. If you need further assistance, I am always here to help.

Thank you for your patience and understanding. I appreciate your continued trust. Hope you having a nice day and really much warm regards to you as well!

To resolve your issue with the Microsoft Authenticator app not generating a verification code during the Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) stage, consider the following steps:

    1. Contact Microsoft Data Protection Support: Since you are locked out of your tenant and have no administrative access, it's crucial to reach out to the Azure Data Protection team directly. You can contact them at +1 866-807-5850. Make sure to explain that you are the Global Administrator and provide details about your situation.
    2. Tenant Ownership Verification: Be prepared to provide DNS TXT verification for your domain, along with any business registration documentation and billing confirmation, as this may be required for tenant ownership verification.
    3. Forced MFA Reset: Request a forced reset of the MFA settings for your Global Administrator account. This can often help regain access when the Authenticator app is not functioning correctly.
    4. Alternative Account Creation: If you cannot reach support or if the issue persists, consider creating a temporary account by signing up for a trial subscription. This can allow you to access the admin console of a new tenant and submit a support ticket on behalf of your original tenant.
    5. Prevent Future Lockouts: Once access is regained, consider setting up an emergency access account (break-glass account) to prevent similar issues in the future.

These steps should help you regain access to your Microsoft 365 tenant and resolve the MFA issues you are experiencing.
