HI All, I try to register my laptop to my microsoft account.

Situation:

  1. when I login into my microsoft account via edge or chrome and try to register my devices it fails with error device serial number unknown.
  2. Then I contact the microsoft customer supprt via phone 855 270 0615 I get useless information and there is no way to get through to a human. You should be ashamed to provide such nonsense to paying customers.
  3. When I try to get in touch with the microsoft support via the help app on my computer or the web site I end up in a loop. It asks me to login and then it redirects me to the login page again and again and again.

Please help me to get in touch with a support person!

When registering a device on a Microsoft account online, the serial number method is only available for Microsoft manufactured devices, like a Surface laptop.

For all other devices, ensure you log into your device with your Microsoft account, then in the settings app, ensure you have the Location Services setting enabled for all apps, and also enable the 'Find My Device' setting, your device will then get linked to your Microsoft account automatically.

It may take some time for your device to appear on your account online, because there is currently a widely reported problem where devices that are correctly registered to the account do not appear online, this is a server side issue that Microsoft need to fix.

It sounds like you're experiencing significant issues with registering your laptop to your Microsoft account. Here are some steps you can try to resolve the problem:

    1. Clear Browser Cache: Sometimes, clearing your browser's cache and cookies can help resolve login issues. Try this in both Edge and Chrome.
    2. Use InPrivate or Incognito Mode: Try accessing your Microsoft account in InPrivate mode (Edge) or Incognito mode (Chrome) to see if that bypasses the login loop.
    3. Different Network: If possible, try connecting to a different network (like a mobile hotspot) to see if the issue persists.
    4. Contact Microsoft Support: If you continue to have trouble, you may need to contact Microsoft Support directly. You can do this by:
      • Typing "Get Help" in the Windows search bar and selecting it.
      • Typing "Chat with an agent" and following the prompts to connect with a live agent.
      • Alternatively, you can select the "Call me back" option to have them contact you.

If these steps do not resolve your issue, you may need to fill out the recovery form to regain access to your account or seek further assistance through the support channels.
