Functional question Excel ribbon

Good day,

I am experiencing a strange issue. Working on Microsoft server 2016, with Excel.

I use a specific add-in. In Excel, I use this through the tab of Ribbons called "Add-ins". However, sometimes this tab of the ribbon simply disappears. The add-in will still be enabled. I can only get the tab of the ribbon back by disabling the add-in, and then enabling it again.

A colleague working on the same server with the same add-in and Excel version does not experience the issue.

  • Trusted locations is in order. The add-in is installed in the standard Excel folder, and this folder and all subfolders are added to the trusted locations.
  • The security settings on the file are not there. Probably because the OS is older, I am unsure.
  • The Excel version is the latest version of Microsoft 365 apps before the change of icons for all Office apps.

Has anyone experienced a similar issue and found a resolution?

    Dear Mr. Vo,

Thank you for your reply. I have not taken these steps, as it is a server based installation, not a single user (like on a desktop or a laptop).

What may have resolved the issue in the meantime (still checking, looks good so far), was deleting the "Excel15.xlb" file from "..\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Excel" folder.

    Kind regards,

    Dear Jay Pluymaeckers,

Thank you for posting your question in the Microsoft Q&A forum.

Based on your description, it seems like a specific add on that you use often disappears and it is not occurring with your colleague who uses the same Excel version. In cases like yours, it can be related to profile issues or local cache.

Please try the below steps in order and stop once the issue is resolved:

    1. Open Excel > File → Options > Add-ins > select COM Add-ins > Go > select the add-in > Remove > quite Excel > re-open Excel and re-add the add-in manually
    2. Clear Office Cache
    3. Repairs Microsoft 365 Apps
      • Go to Search > Apps > Installed Apps > Microsoft 365 Apps / Microsoft Office > Eclipse (...) > click Modify > choose Quick Repair > if still broken, run Online Repair (more thorough)
      • User's image

If you need further assistance, kindly take a screenshot of your issue and I will be happy to assist you further.
