One Click Event Addition in Outlook Calendar

Recently, I have not been able to one-click on a day to add an event in a small pop-up. Now, there is either a bar in which something can be typed in, or I have to double-click in order to open a new window to create an event.

    Hi @Fordyce, Rylie,

Thank you for posting your question in the Microsoft Q&A forum.

I completely understand how convenient the one‑click pop‑up for adding calendar events was, and it’s understandable that the change can feel confusing or disruptive when you’ve relied on that workflow.

In New Outlook for Windows, Microsoft has recently updated the calendar interaction experience. As part of this update, the small “quick add” pop‑up that appeared when single‑clicking on a date is no longer available. Instead, you now have the following options:

    • Use the inline entry bar to quickly type event details directly into the calendar.
    • Or double‑click a date or time slot to open the full event creation window.

These changes are part of the ongoing modernization of New Outlook. While Microsoft continues to enhance the experience, some classic features are still being evaluated and may be reconsidered in future updates.

If the classic quick‑add behavior is essential to your daily workflow, you may want to consider switching back to Classic Outlook (if it’s still available in your environment), where this feature continues to function as before. Additionally, I strongly encourage you to share your feedback directly with the product team. This can be done easily through the Outlook (new) · Community portal . Your input helps the team prioritize improvements for future releases.

    Wishing you all the best.

It seems that the ability to add an event with one click in the Outlook calendar may be affected by the version you are using. In the newer Outlook client, the one-click event addition feature might not be available as it was in the classic version. Instead, you may need to either type in the event details in a bar that appears or double-click to open a new window for creating an event. If you are using the classic Outlook client, you can still create a duplicate of an appointment by selecting it and using keyboard shortcuts like CTRL+C to copy and CTRL+V to paste, or by holding the CTRL key and dragging the appointment to a new time slot.

If you are experiencing issues with the new interface, it might be worth checking for updates or settings that could restore the previous functionality.
