    Hi elizabeth tingle,

Thank you for posting on Microsoft Q&A forum. I know how frustrating it is when something keeps popping up at startup and won’t let you use your PC normally.

Let’s take this step by step and get things back under control:

Step 1: Stop the app from opening when the computer starts

This will prevent the app from taking over your screen every time you turn the PC on.

    1. Press Ctrl + Shift + Esc on your keyboard to open Task Manager.
    2. If it opens in a small window, click More details at the bottom.
    3. Go to the Startup tab at the top.
    4. Look for anything named Roku, Rohu or any unfamiliar app you don’t recognize.
    5. Click it once, then click Disable in the bottom‑right corner.
    6. Close Task Manager.

This doesn’t delete anything yet but just stops the app from launching automatically.

Step 2: Uninstall the app completely

Once it’s no longer auto‑starting, we can safely remove it.

    1. Press Windows + I to open Settings.
    2. Select Apps, then Apps & features.
    3. Scroll through the list (or use the search box) to find the same app you disabled earlier.
    4. Click it and choose Uninstall, then follow the prompts on screen.

After this, the app should be fully removed.

Step 3: If the app won’t uninstall or blocks the screen

If the app still gets in the way, Safe Mode will let us remove it without interference.

    1. Press Windows + R, type msconfig, and press Enter.
    2. Open the Boot tab.
    3. Check Safe boot, select Minimal, then click OK and restart.
    4. Once the PC restarts, repeat Step 2 to uninstall the app.
    5. When you’re done, open msconfig again, uncheck Safe boot, and restart normally.

Step 4: Run a quick security check

This behavior isn’t normal for Roku software, so it’s a good idea to scan the system.

    1. Open Windows Security.
    2. Select Virus & threat protection > Scan options.
    3. Choose Full scan and start the scan.

This helps make sure there’s nothing unwanted left behind.

These steps won’t affect your personal files or data. If anything doesn’t look right or if you get stuck at any point, please let me know. I’m happy to walk through it with you.

    Thanks for your patience.

To cancel or uninstall the Roku application that is causing issues on your PC, you can follow these steps:

    1. Using Control Panel:
      • Click Start, then go to Control Panel.
      • Select Programs and Features.
      • Find the Roku application in the list, right-click on it, and select Uninstall.
    2. Using Task Manager (if the application is unresponsive):
      • Press Ctrl + Shift + Esc to open Task Manager.
      • Look for the Roku application in the list of processes, select it, and click End Task to close it.
      • After closing it, you can then proceed to uninstall it using the Control Panel as described above.

If you are still unable to remove the application, you might consider restarting your PC in Safe Mode and then attempting the uninstallation again.
