Setting up a PS5 controller on my remote machine, going thru my notes, gpedit, updated Local Group policies, gpupdate, restart... In my Remote Desktop sign-on, I no longer see 'Other Supported RemoteFX USB devices' as an option to select, is that something that needs to be added/exposed

    Hi Leverett, James,

It’s important to note that RemoteFX USB redirection has been deprecated in recent Windows builds due to security concerns, and in many cases the option no longer appears even if the Group Policy settings are enabled. This means that what you’re seeing is not a misconfiguration on your part, but rather a change in how newer versions of Windows handle USB redirection. For devices like game controllers, the recommended approach is to use Remote Desktop’s native device redirection (for supported classes such as printers and drives) or to rely on third‑party solutions that specialize in USB over network redirection.

If your goal is specifically to use a PS5 controller in a remote session, RemoteFX will not expose it anymore. Instead, you may want to explore alternatives such as Parsec or other remote streaming tools that are designed to handle game controller input more reliably. While this may feel like a shift from the old workflow, it ensures compatibility with current Windows security standards.

I hope this helps clarify the situation. If you find this answer helpful, please consider clicking Accept Answer so I know your issue has been resolved.

    Jason.

It seems that the option for "Other Supported RemoteFX USB devices" may not be available due to changes in Group Policy settings or the configuration of your Remote Desktop environment. To enable RDP redirection of other supported USB peripherals, you need to ensure that the Group Policy setting is correctly configured.

Here are the steps you can follow to check and enable this setting:

    1. Open the Group Policy Management console on the device managing your Active Directory domain.
    2. Create or edit a policy that targets the computers providing the remote session.
    3. Navigate to Computer Configuration > Policies > Administrative Templates > Windows Components > Remote Desktop Services > Remote Desktop Connection Client > RemoteFX USB Device Redirection.
    4. Double-click the policy setting Allow RDP redirection of other supported RemoteFX USB devices from this computer and select Enabled.
    5. Choose Administrators and Users for the RemoteFX USB Redirection Access Rights.
    6. Ensure the policy is applied to the local Windows devices and restart them for the changes to take effect.

If the setting is correctly configured and you still do not see the option, it may be necessary to check for any updates or changes in the Windows build that could affect RemoteFX USB redirection.
