Welcome paul carbone,
Thank you for reaching out to Microsoft Q&A forum.
I understand how frustrating it can be when you are looking for a way to disable or hide Copilot in Windows 11 and cannot find the option that you remember from your previous computer.
- Are you trying to remove Copilot from the taskbar only, or fully disable it system‑wide?
In the meantime, you can try the steps below to troubleshoot the issue:
Option 1: Hide Copilot from the taskbar
- Go to Settings > Personalization
- Select Taskbar
- Turn off Copilot under Taskbar items
option 2: Disable Copilot using Registry Editor
- Press Windows key + R, type
regedit, and press Enter - Go to
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Windows - Right‑click Windows, select New, then Key, and name it
WindowsCopilot - Select WindowsCopilot, right‑click the right pane, select New, then DWORD (32‑bit) Value
- Name it TurnOffWindowsCopilot and set the value to 1
- Restart the device
Option 3: Restart Windows Explorer if Copilot still appears
- Press Ctrl + Shift + Esc to open Task Manager
- Select Windows Explorer
- Click Restart
I really hope that the information I gave above was helpful to you. Please feel free to reply below and let me know if you have further concern on this matter.
