Authenticator Catch 22 and Global Admin Issuse

We had a power surge last week that shut down my mac computer at work. When I rebooted, Microsoft 365 required reactivation. When I attempted to sign in, however, the authenticator app did not allow me to enter the code. Activation cannot complete without verification, but verification cannot happen without prior setup. I have ... 1) quit all Office apps and reopened; 2) cleared cached credentials via Keychain; 3) used the Microsoft Office License Removal Tool; 4) tried to sign into the account from the web browser. I am the global admin, but I cannot access the account. When I call customer service, the automated assistant says that I am not the global admin and that I must contact my global admin. I am the only admin ... the only global admin, but Microsoft will not acknowledge me and will not let me access my account. What in the world can be done? I have been trying for 3 days to get through the customer service automated assistant to absolutely no avail.

It sounds like you're facing a frustrating situation with your Microsoft 365 account and the Microsoft Authenticator app. Since you are the global admin and unable to access your account due to the MFA verification issues, here are some steps you can take:

    1. Contact Microsoft Data Protection Support: Since you are the only global admin, you should reach out to Microsoft Data Protection Support directly. You can call them at +1 866-807-5850. Make sure to explain that you are the sole admin and are unable to access your account due to MFA issues.
    2. Try a Temporary Account: If you cannot reach a live agent, consider creating a temporary account by signing up for a trial subscription. This will allow you to access the admin console of the new tenant and submit a support ticket requesting assistance for your original tenant.
    3. Follow the Correct IVR Prompts: When calling customer service, ensure you follow the prompts correctly to indicate that you are an administrator and need to create a service request. This may help you get routed to the right team.
    4. Check for Other Admins: If there are any other users in your organization who might have admin privileges, ask them to assist you in resetting your MFA settings.

These steps should help you regain access to your account. If you continue to have issues, persistence in contacting support may be necessary as they can provide the specific assistance needed for your situation.
