I only see MAK keys under our current SPLA agreement; I know there are steps to get a KMS key under other Commercial licensing contracts; is it the same process under a SPLA agreement?

    Hi Dawn,

Under SPLA agreements, Microsoft only issues MAK keys for product activation; KMS keys are not provided. The process you may have seen under other commercial licensing programs (such as Volume Licensing or Enterprise Agreements) does not apply to SPLA. If you need centralized activation, the supported method under SPLA is to use the MAK keys with automated deployment tools or activation scripts, but you cannot request a KMS key through SPLA. If your environment requires KMS, you would need a different licensing program that explicitly includes KMS activation rights.

    Harry.

To obtain a Windows Server 2025 Datacenter (DC) KMS key under a Services Provider License Agreement (SPLA), you typically need to follow a process similar to that of other volume licensing agreements. However, the specific steps may vary slightly based on the terms of your SPLA agreement.

    1. Contact your Microsoft Partner: Since SPLA agreements are managed through Microsoft partners, the first step is to reach out to your Microsoft partner or reseller. They can provide guidance on how to obtain the KMS key under your specific agreement.
    2. Volume Licensing Service Center (VLSC): While SPLA keys may not be directly available in the same way as other commercial agreements, your partner may guide you to the appropriate resources or sections within the VLSC where you can find the KMS key.
    3. Microsoft Activation Center: If you encounter issues or need further assistance, contacting the Microsoft Activation Center can also provide support in acquiring the necessary KMS key for your SPLA agreement.

It's important to note that KMS keys are intended for volume licensing scenarios and should not be confused with retail keys. Ensure you are following the appropriate guidelines for your licensing agreement.
