Blocked media source keeps appearing on my Edge pages

I have been blocking Sky News and Fox News from my source, but their feed keeps appearing.

This is responsibility failure on your part because you made it looks like you are blocking as per our personalisation preference, but as a matter of fact your system still allows those feeds to filter through. This is how fake news saturate your media feeds and prevent proper journalism to materialise.

If this is not fixed properly, your actions are just pure corporate greed. No sugar coating on it.

    Hi Ferdie Fandialan,

Welcome to the Microsoft Q&A forum.

In Microsoft Edge and Windows 11, news content comes from Microsoft Start (MSN) and is shown in several places (New Tab page, Widgets, taskbar feeds). Publisher blocking is treated as a preference signal, not a hard filter, and some feeds refresh independently. Because of this, changes may not always apply consistently across all surfaces.

If your goal is to ensure those sources never appear, the most reliable approach is to disable the feed where it shows up. And here are some possible options that you can consider trying:

Option 1: Turn off news on Edge New Tab

    • Open a new tab in Edge
    • Click Page settings
    • Turn Show feed > Off

Option 2: Turn off news in Windows Widgets

    • Press Win + W
    • Select Settings
    • Turn Discover / Microsoft Start feed > Off

If you're on managed or work devices, disabling Microsoft Start content via Group Policy, Registry, or Intune provides consistent results. This removes the feed entirely rather than relying on publisher preferences.

If you are experiencing issues with blocked media sources like Sky News and Fox News still appearing in your feeds on Microsoft Edge, it may be related to how the browser handles tracking prevention and content personalization. Here are a few suggestions to address this issue:

    1. Check Tracking Prevention Settings: Ensure that your tracking prevention settings are configured to block unwanted content. You can access these settings by going to Settings > Privacy, search, and services in Edge.
    2. Clear Cookies and Site Data: Sometimes, clearing cookies and site data can help reset your preferences. You can do this by going to Settings > Privacy, search, and services > Clear browsing data.
    3. Report the Issue: If you believe that the feeds are still appearing despite your settings, consider reporting this to Microsoft. You can do this through the feedback option in Edge.
    4. Customize Your New Tab Page: If these sources are appearing as quick links or news tiles, you can customize your new tab page settings to remove or hide them.

If the problem persists, it may be beneficial to check for updates to Microsoft Edge or consult the support documentation for further troubleshooting steps.
