Based on your description, may I know that you encountered any error messages? If yes, you can provide me a screenshot of it (please kindly hide any personal information in that image before sending it here because this is public forum).
In the meantime, if all Microsoft 365 apps (Excel, Word, etc.) are not opening, please try the following steps in order to see if they can help:
1.Reinstall Microsoft 365 / Office:
- First, please reinstall Microsoft 365 to make sure the installation files are not corrupted. You can follow the official Microsoft guide here: Download, install, or reinstall Microsoft 365 or Office 2024 on a PC or Mac
- After reinstalling, restart your PC and test again.
2.Repair the Office installation:
- If reinstalling does not help, please try repairing Office. Reference: Repair an Office application
- In that article, if Quick Repair does not fix the issue, please run Online Repair, which may be more thorough.
3.Start Excel / Word in Safe Mode:
This helps check whether add‑ins are causing the problem. Please follow:
- Press Windows + R
- Type
excel /safe(orwinword /safe) and press Enter
If the app opens in Safe Mode, the issue may cause by an add‑in. You can then disable add‑ins from File > Options > Add‑ins. Reference: Open Office apps in safe mode on a Windows PC
4.Please temporarily disable any third‑party antivirus or system cleanup tools and test again. Some antivirus software can block Office processes and prevent apps from opening. If this resolves the issue, add Office apps to the antivirus exclusion list.
5.Make sure Windows and Office are up to date:
- Outdated Windows or Office builds can also cause this behavior.
- Go to Settings > Windows Update and check the available updates
- Open any Office app (if possible) then go to File > Account > Update Options > Update Now
