How to fix microphone issues on windows 11

I have a realtek audio based pair of headphones with a built in mic. While I am able to hear perfectly fine through the headphones, the microphone is not working. I cannot find the correct realtek driver, and troubleshoot has not been able to provide feedback that is applicable. When testing the input in settings using feedback, the sound seems to be coming through the headphones, noticeably while tapping or scratching the part that goes over the ear. If anyone has any idea as to why or what to try next, please let me know.

    Hi Alanna Alt,
Welcome to Microsoft Q&A forum. I'm happy to help.

Testing by tapping or scratching the microphone part cannot guarantee that your microphone is working, cause what you hear on your headphone is probably physical feedback to it.

Press the combination Windows key + R, insert mmsys.cpl and press OK to open Sound settings. Navigate to Recording tab, do you see any microphone devices there, and does the indicator go up while you're speaking to the microphone?

In case you don't have the right audio drivers for your system, please provide me your laptop or motherboard model, I will help you to find out.

If you have any updates, please feel free to let me know.

    Hi Alanna,

Do you have the Realtek HD Control panel installed?

If not, please download it from here.

Send a screenshot of the Settings and hopefully I would be able to assist with a fix.

I’m eager to hear back and work together to find a solution.
