Hi

My shift key has a problem. Some words are capitalized only with the right shift key, and some with the left shift key. No symbols are typed except %^. In fact, when I hold the shift key and click on another button, nothing is typed. My keyboard is fine and I updated the drivers, but the problem is not solved. I also tested with another keyboard and the problem is still there. I have windows 11.

    1

Open Command Prompt, then paste in this command and press Enter:

    msdt.exe -id KeyboardDiagnostic

Run that Keyboard Troubleshooter to see if that can solve the problem.

    2

If that does not resolve this for you

    Open Device Manager

    Expand the Keyboards section

Right click your keyboard and choose 'Uninstall'

    Then restart your PC

    3

If the problem is not resolved.

    Open the Settings App.

    Go to Accessibility - Keyboard

Ensure Sticky Keys, Filter Keys and Toggle Keys are all disabled.

It sounds like you are experiencing an issue with your keyboard's shift key functionality in Windows 11. Since you have already tested another keyboard and updated the drivers without resolving the problem, here are a few additional troubleshooting steps you can try:

    1. Check Keyboard Settings: Ensure that any accessibility features like Sticky Keys are turned off. You can find these settings in the Ease of Access section of the Settings app.
    2. Clean the Keyboard: Sometimes, debris under the keys can cause issues. Use compressed air to blow under the keys and wipe them with a slightly damp microfiber cloth.
    3. Safe Mode: Boot your computer in Safe Mode to see if the issue persists. If it works fine in Safe Mode, a third-party application may be interfering with the keyboard functionality.
    4. Keyboard Layout: Verify that the correct keyboard layout is selected in your language settings. You can switch between installed layouts using the Windows logo key + Spacebar.
    5. On-Screen Keyboard: As a temporary workaround, you can use the On-Screen Keyboard (OSK) to see if the shift key functions correctly there. This can help determine if the issue is hardware-related.

If none of these steps resolve the issue, it may be worth checking for any Windows updates or considering a system restore to a point before the problem began.
