OneNote Search Notebook bar has moved and covering up my page and need it to move back

My OneNote Search Notebooks bar has moved and covering up my pages and I don't understand how this happened or why. If this was done on purpose who thought this was a good idea? Please restore or provide steps to move it back.

This behavior is the result of a recent OneNote for Windows UI update that moved the search box and its dropdown into the page canvas in certain layouts. Below are the quick ways to restore usable behavior and prevent the search overlay from blocking your notes:

1/ Update OneNote to receive the fix (recommended)

The updated interface automatically places the search dropdown in a better position.

To update OneNote/Office on Windows: Open Word (or OneNote) > File > Account > Update Options > Update Now (If you don’t see Update Now, select Enable Updates first.)

This ensures you receive the build where the search dropdown no longer covers your page content.

2/ If you need an immediate workaround before updating

These adjustments help reduce or eliminate the obstruction:

Move the page list to the left:

When the page list is on the left, the search UI appears farther from the content area.

• OneNote: View > Tabs Layout > Horizontal Tabs
• Then go to File > Options > Display > Move page list to the left: Navigate your notes with OneNote.

Toggle or resize the Navigation pane:

Temporarily hiding or adjusting the notebook/section pane can create more room.

• Use the Navigation button in the upper‑left corner to show/hide panels. You can also drag the pane edge to resize it.

Quickly dismiss the search overlay:

• Press Esc to close the search UI
• Use Ctrl + F to search only the current page
• Use Ctrl + E to search across notebooks: Search notes in OneNote.
