Dear @Michael Anderson,
Thank you for posting your question in the Microsoft Q&A forum.
I apologize for any inconvenience you may encounter when using our services/ products. Based on your description, kindly try these following steps:
Step 1: Download the exact same version that is having issue
Download Microsoft Windows Desktop Runtime 6.0.36 (x64). Download .NET 6.0 (Linux, macOS, and Windows) | .NET
Step 2: Run the installer
- Double‑click the file
- When prompted, choose Repair (not Install)
- Let it finish completely
- Restart the PC
Step 3: Run Windows Update again
- Go to Settings > Windows Update > Check for updates
- The popup should disappear once the runtime updates cleanly.
I sincerely hope you understand that the initial steps I suggested may not have completely fixed the issue, as there may still be underlying causes that have not yet been identified. I am here to work closely with you, troubleshoot effectively, and explore every possible solution to ensure the best possible outcome.
