I’m stuck in a non ending loop where my laptop is demanding I use a code from my Authenticator app. My Authenticator app won’t show a code and every time I try to add one it all asks me to enter a code from the Authenticator app. This is absolutely frustrating that I can’t log in! I don’t give a damn about thee Authenticator apps and just want to use my email address and password but am unable to proceed.

    Hi Inspire Med Group,

Welcome to the Microsoft Q&A forum.

What you’re seeing happens when your account is set to use an extra verification step, but the Authenticator app isn’t completing that step correctly.

Here are some possible checking steps that you can try in this case:

    1, Refresh the Authenticator app

    • On your phone, open Settings > Date & Time and turn Set time automatically on.
    • Restart the phone.
    • Open the Authenticator app again and retry sign‑in.

2, Reset and recover the Authenticator app

    • Remove all accounts from the Authenticator app (or uninstall and reinstall it).
    • Reopen the app and choose Recover account / Restore from backup.
    • Sign in when prompted, then return to your Windows sign‑in screen.

    3, Remove Authenticator as a sign‑in method

    • From another device, go to Microsoft Account.
    • Sign in using Other ways to sign in (such as email or SMS).
    • Open Security > Advanced security options.
    • Remove Microsoft Authenticator and add an alternative method (SMS or email).
    • Sign in to Windows again.

    4, Account recovery

    • Start the recovery process at Account recovery and follow the identity‑verification steps to reset sign‑in methods.

If this device is connected to a work or school account, your IT administrator can quickly reset the verification settings for you.

It sounds like you're experiencing a common issue with Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) after reinstalling Windows. Since your Authenticator app is not providing a code, you will need to reset your MFA settings to regain access to your account. Here are some steps you can take:

    1. Contact Microsoft Support: Since you are likely the only administrator for your account, you will need to reach out to Microsoft support for assistance. You can call their customer service hotline and explain your situation. Make sure to mention that you are the sole admin and cannot access your account due to the MFA requirement.
    2. Use a Temporary Account: If you are unable to reach support, consider creating a trial Microsoft 365 tenant. This will allow you to log in to a new admin center and submit a support ticket requesting help from the Data Protection team regarding your original account.
    3. Follow IVR Prompts: When calling support, follow the prompts carefully. You may need to select options indicating you are a business user and require technical support. This will help direct your call to the right team.
    4. Alternative Sign-in Methods: If you have any other sign-in methods set up (like SMS or email verification), try using those to bypass the Authenticator app requirement.

These steps should help you regain access to your account. If you continue to have issues, keep trying to reach Microsoft support for further assistance.
