Hello

There's a problem I encountered since I was just simply playing games on my laptop (which is an Inspiron 3458 dell laptop) I have two drivers. Intel hd graphics 5500 and GeForce 920m. I uninstalled the 920M to try and reinstall it but it didn't work, I then tried to go to bios setup and press "load setup defaults" but it didn't work. And now my laptop is stuck in a black screen. When I open it it just restarts then continues to black screen.

Things I tried: Win + Ctrl + shift + b: didn't work.

F2 on start up also didn't work.

HDMI cable to tv also didn't work.

And the light that's down there has only ever shown solid white, then faded away slowly. I didn't see any amber lights or flickering different lights and only solid white. Please help nothing seems to work.

    Hello omar hazem,

Your Dell Inspiron 3458 is currently experiencing a No POST condition rather than a Windows OS failure. Loading the BIOS setup defaults likely disrupted the hardware initialization sequence between the integrated Intel HD 5500 and the dedicated Nvidia 920M graphics, corrupting the system NVRAM.

The most reliable resolution requires clearing the motherboard's CMOS memory by performing a hard reset. Disconnect the AC adapter, physically remove the main battery from the bottom of the chassis, and press and hold the power button down continuously for 60 seconds.

Afterward, reconnect only the AC power adapter without the battery installed and attempt to turn the laptop on, allowing it a few minutes to retrain the memory and attempt a normal boot.

If the machine continues to loop with a fading white power light after executing these hardware-level interventions, the motherboard or the dedicated graphics chip has sustained a physical failure requiring physical board repair or replacement.

Hope this answer brought you some useful information. If it has, please consider accepting the answer so that other people sharing the same issue would benefit too. Thank you.

To troubleshoot the black screen issue on your Dell Inspiron 3458 laptop after attempting to load setup defaults, you can try the following steps:

    1. Perform a Hard Reset: Disconnect all external devices (like USB drives, HDMI cables, etc.), remove the battery (if possible), and hold down the power button for about 15-20 seconds. Then reconnect the battery and power on the laptop.
    2. Boot into Safe Mode: If you can access the Advanced Startup Options, try booting into Safe Mode. You can do this by interrupting the boot process three times (turning off the laptop during boot) to trigger Windows Recovery Environment. From there, select Troubleshoot > Advanced options > Startup Settings > Restart, and then choose Safe Mode.
    3. Use Windows Recovery Environment (WinRE): If Safe Mode doesn't work, you can use the Startup Repair tool from WinRE. Boot from a Windows installation media, select Repair your computer, then Troubleshoot, and finally Startup Repair. This tool can fix common startup issues automatically.
    4. Check BIOS Settings: Since you mentioned loading setup defaults in BIOS, ensure that the graphics settings are correctly configured. Sometimes, switching between integrated and dedicated graphics can resolve display issues.
    5. Reset Graphics Driver: If you can access the Task Manager (by pressing Ctrl + Alt + Del), try to restart the graphics driver by ending the explorer.exe process and then running it again from Task Manager.

If these steps do not resolve the issue, it may be necessary to consult with Dell support or consider a hardware issue, especially if the laptop does not respond to any of these troubleshooting steps.
