Azure Arc - Debian 13 support

Hi,

According to the Azure Arc v1.61 release notes, Debian 13 should now be supported. However, we still can’t connect Debian 13 VMs in Azure Local with Azure Arc.

    u know debian 13 support was added to the Azure Connected Machine (Azure Arc) agent in version 1.61 of the agent release notes https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/azure/azure-arc/servers/agent-release-notes#version-161 it clearly lists Added support … and yes debian 13 under the linux column, but as previously noted that release note doesn’t guarantee that support is already available in every environment (such as Azure Local / Azure Stack HCI).

    Azure Local it also has to be published and rolled out for that specific platform and build so until that updated agent package is available on the Azure Local side you may still see connection failures. (Docs do not explicitly state the platform rollout schedule but the agent notes are where the debian 13 support entry appears.) If u need confirmation for Azure Local specifically, the supported os list under arc prerequisites is the authoritative source its still debian 12 or below there until updated :)))))

    Debian 13 is still not actually supported yet for Azure Arc in Azure Local environments. The support entry in the agent release notes applies to the agent itself, but the broader platform support rollout for Azure Local has not been completed yet. That means trying to connect Debian 13 VMs to Azure Arc in Azure Local currently fails because the platform hasn’t published or enabled the updated Debian 13 support there yet. You could wait until Microsoft updates Azure Arc to support Debian 13, but there is no guaranteed timeline.

    For now, please continue using Debian 12 when onboarding machines to Azure Arc in Azure Local, as Debian 13 is not yet fully supported in this environment.
