My system recently booted up with a Bit Recovery Code blue screen. After checking my Microsoft account, there was no Code. I had to wipe the hard drive and reinstall windows 11 from scratch. I still do not have a Bit Recovery code in my account. How do I get one so that I do not go through the same process n the future?

If your drive is still encrypted with Bitlocker, the only place the Bitlocker Recovery key is automatically stored is on the associated Microsoft account on the link below, be sure to check any Microsoft account that may have been used on the PC and also any work or school account that may be linked to the PC.

Are you able to find the Bitlocker Recovery Key on any account that may have been used or linked to the PC?

To create a BitLocker recovery code and ensure you have it available for future use, you can follow these steps:

    1. Enable BitLocker: If you haven't already, enable BitLocker on your drive. You can do this by searching for "Manage BitLocker" in the Start menu and following the prompts to encrypt your drive.
    2. Save Recovery Key: During the BitLocker setup, you will be prompted to save your recovery key. You can choose to save it to your Microsoft account, a USB drive, print it, or save it as a file. It is recommended to save it to your Microsoft account for easy access.
    3. Check Your Microsoft Account: If you saved the recovery key to your Microsoft account, you can access it by visiting https://myaccount.microsoft.com, going to the Devices tab, and selecting your Windows device to view the BitLocker keys.
    4. Backup Recovery Key: It’s a good practice to keep a backup of your recovery key in a secure location, separate from your device. This could be a physical copy or stored in a secure cloud service.
    5. Regularly Update Recovery Key: If you change your hardware or make significant updates to your system, consider updating your BitLocker recovery key and saving it again.

By following these steps, you can ensure that you have a BitLocker recovery code available in case you encounter issues in the future.
