I moved to Florida last year and changed my address from Indiana to Florida at that time. I was just billed for another year and Microsoft charged to sales tax from Indiana and not Florida. Please change the billing amount.

    Hello Robert Bogs,

Thank you for posting your question in the Microsoft Q&A forum!

I understand that you are having issue with changing your address on invoice. I truly understand how you feel. Let me assist you go through this situation.

According to my own research, once a Microsoft 365 charge is already completed, it cannot retroactively change the billing address or tax on that invoice. Address changes only apply to future charges. When tax is charged incorrectly, the correction is handled through refund or support review, not by editing the invoice. For more information, please check here: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/office/billing-information-for-microsoft-365-for-home-in-mexico-ef829880-6764-44e8-b5a0-7de436afe850

Here is my suggestion for you:

Step 1: Confirm your Florida address is set correctly (for future charges)

This prevents the issue from happening again.

    1. Sign in at https://account.microsoft.com/
    2. Select Payment & billing > Address book
    3. Make sure your Florida address is:
      • Set as the billing address
      • Set as the tax address, if shown

Changes here apply to the next renewal, not the one already billed.

Step 2: Request a refund / tax correction for the Indiana tax

For an already‑posted charge, it requires a refund request or support case.

    Option A: Check refund eligibility

    1. Go to [http://account.microsoft.com/billing/orders]
    2. Find the recent Microsoft 365 renewal
    3. If eligible, you’ll see a Refund status or option

Refund status (if issued) also appears on this page. If you do not see a refund option, that means the charge needs manual review by Support.

    Option B: Contact Microsoft Support

This is the correct path when the wrong state tax was applied.

    1. Go to Contact Microsoft Support https://support.microsoft.com/home/contact
    2. Enter an issue like: “Incorrect sales tax charged – billing address updated”
    3. Choose Subscription, account, billing > Microsoft 365 (Home)
    4. Request:
      • Review of the charge
      • Refund of Indiana sales tax charged in error

Please note that the chat support team only works during certain working hours. Therefore, if the last window indicates that you are unavailable, try opening it again the next day. If you prefer phone support, you can leave a phone number. That way, they can call you and help you.

To refund and check for refund eligible you can refer to this website, follow the steps instruction:

I hope this will help with your situation. Please feel free to reach back if you have further update or more questions.

    Best Regards,
