    Hi Marcia Williams,

Thanks for reaching out to Microsoft Q&A Forum. I understand that your mouse is not connecting properly to your Windows computer and is acting up intermittently.

Please make sure you already tried the Q&A Assist steps. In addition, please try the following.

To help narrow this down further:

    1. Which Windows version are you currently using (Windows 10 or Windows 11)?
    2. Does the mouse appear in Device Manager under Mice and other pointing devices when it stops working?

In the meantime, you can try these steps:

    • Restart the computer and test the mouse again after Windows fully loads.
    • Connect the mouse to a different USB port directly on the computer (avoid USB hubs).
    • Open Device Manager and expand Mice and other pointing devices
      • If the mouse appears, right‑click it and choose Uninstall device
      • Restart the computer and allow Windows to reinstall the driver automatically
    • Open Settings, go to Bluetooth and devices, then turn Bluetooth off and back on (if applicable).
    • Check Windows Update and install any available optional driver updates related to HID or input devices.
    • Test the mouse on another computer to verify whether the behavior is the same.

Hi, I'm Jan and I'm glad to be able to help you today. I'm sorry you have this problem. Just to narrow things down, is your mouse wired, wireless with a plug-in USB receiver, or connected directly via Bluetooth?

If your mouse is not connecting to your computer, there could be several reasons for this issue:

    1. Physical Connection: Ensure that the mouse is properly connected to the computer. If it's a wired mouse, check the USB port. For wireless mice, ensure that the USB dongle is securely plugged in and that the mouse has fresh batteries.
    2. Mouse Without Borders: If you are using the Mouse Without Borders utility, ensure that all machines are connected to the same network and that the security key and computer host name are correctly entered. Check if the Firewall is blocking connections and consider adding a firewall rule for Mouse Without Borders.
    3. Driver Issues: Sometimes, the mouse may not work due to driver issues. Check if the drivers are up to date or if there are any known issues with your mouse model.
    4. Hardware Problems: If the mouse pointer is invisible, it may be due to the absence of a physical mouse attached to the machine. In this case, you can plug in a different mouse or enable the Mouse Keys feature in the Control Panel.
    5. Troubleshooting Steps: If you can't set up the initial connection or if the connection is lost, try refreshing the connections in the settings or restarting your computer.

If these steps do not resolve the issue, consider testing the mouse on another computer to determine if the problem lies with the mouse itself or the computer's settings.
