    Hi @Matildalvarez 10,

Welcome to the Microsoft Q&A forum.

I would like to provide you with the following information. Please try the solutions below to check whether the issue can be resolved:

    Solution 1: Update Graphics Drivers

Outdated graphics drivers are often a common cause of display-related issues in software. You can update them using one of the following methods:

    Via Device Manager

    • Right-click the Start button and select Device Manager.
    • Expand Display adapters.
    • Right-click your graphics driver and select Update driver.
    • Choose Search automatically for updated driver software.

Solution 2: Change the Word Theme

    • Open Microsoft Word > select File.
    • Choose Options.
    • Go to General.
    • Under Personalize your copy of Microsoft Office, locate Office Theme and try switching to another option such as Colorful or Light.
    • Restart Word and check the result.

Solution 3: Open Word in Safe Mode

Opening Word in Safe Mode temporarily disables add-ins, which helps determine whether the issue is caused by an add-in:

    • Press and hold the Ctrl key, then double-click the Microsoft Word icon to open it in Safe Mode.
    • Check whether the black selection issue still occurs.
    • If the issue no longer appears, go to File > Options > Add-ins and disable unnecessary add-ins.

Solution 4: Create a New Document

In some cases, the current Word file may be corrupted:

    • Open Word and create a new document.
    • Copy all content from the problematic document.
    • Paste it into the new document and check whether text selection displays normally.

Solution 5: Perform an Online Repair for Office

    • Step 1: Open Windows Settings.
    • Step 2: Select Apps > Installed apps, then find and select Microsoft Office.
    • Step 3: Click the … menu > choose Modify > Online Repair, and follow the on-screen instructions to complete the process.
