How to link Planner to OneNote

I created my daily to do list on Planner under "my day" and I want to be able to have my to do list and be able to take notes. So is there a way to link the Planner to One Note? I know I can insert Loop components, but I'm not sure how to get my planner to copy over to the loop component. I am doing this all through the teams app so everything is in one place if possible.

    Hi @Janine,

Thank you for reaching out to the Microsoft Q&A Forum.

At this time, there isn’t a sync everything option that mirrors your Planner tasks directly into a OneNote page in real time. However, you can configure Microsoft Teams so that your tasks and notes are accessible together in one place.

While it’s not currently possible to import an existing Planner board into a Loop task list with a single action, the workflow does support the reverse approach, which allows you to bring Planner content into Loop for collaborative use.

    1. Open a OneNote page or a Teams chat/channel.
    2. Select Loop component in OneNote > Insert > Loop components

    or via Teams chat/ channel:

    1. Once you create tasks in this Loop component, they automatically sync with Microsoft Planner
    2. You can take your notes in OneNote and manage those specific tasks in the same view.

If you’d like to keep everything within Microsoft Teams and OneNote hasn’t been added yet, you can add it by selecting Apps and searching for OneNote.

Since Microsoft designed "My Day" to be a manual intentional practice, the idea is that every morning, you look at your massive pile of tasks and "pick" what you want to focus on today. So you have to manually add your tasks from your planner into My Day tab. The workflow will look like this:

    • Create the Task: In your OneNote Loop component, type a task and assign it to yourself.
    • This task automatically appears in your "Tasks" or "Assigned to me" list in the Planner/To Do app in Teams.
    • Add your Task into My Day: Open your Tasks by Planner and To Do app in Teams.
    • Go to the Assigned to me or Tasks list.
      • Right-click the task and select Add to My Day.

However, I believe a development for this process could be greatly elevating and impacting to your workflow, I highly recommend submitting a suggestion directly from Teams by navigating to: Microsoft Teams · Community. This is the most effective way to ensure your voice reaches the product team and can be considered for future improvements.

Currently, there is no direct way to link Microsoft Planner to OneNote in a way that automatically syncs your Planner tasks to OneNote. However, you can use Loop components to facilitate collaboration between the two applications.

Here’s how you can manage your tasks and notes:

    1. Use Loop Components: You can create a Loop component in Teams that includes a task list. This allows you to collaborate on tasks and notes in real-time.
    2. Manual Copying: While you cannot directly copy tasks from Planner to a Loop component, you can manually enter your tasks into the Loop component. This way, you can have a consolidated view of your tasks and notes in OneNote.
    3. Using OneNote for Notes: You can create a section in OneNote specifically for your meeting notes or daily notes, and refer to your Planner tasks as needed.

For more information on using Loop components in Teams, you can refer to the documentation on Loop components in the Microsoft 365 ecosystem.
