Dear @Denita Arnold,
Thank you for posting your question in the Microsoft Q&A forum.
I apologize for any inconvenience you may encounter when using our services/ products. Based on your description, kindly try these following steps:
Repair Chrome without uninstalling
- Open Microsoft Edge (or another browser).
- Download the standalone Chrome installer from Google.
- Before running it, close Chrome processes in Task Manager.
- Run the installer to “repair/overwrite” the existing Chrome installation.
Reset Chrome’s user profile
- Open File Explorer > go to:
C:\Users\<your username>\AppData\Local\Google\Chrome\User Data\ - (If you do not see AppData, enable hidden items in File Explorer.)
- Find the folder named Default and rename it to Default.old.
- Launch Chrome again, it will create a fresh Default profile folder.
Clean uninstall and reinstall
- Go to Settings > Apps > Installed apps > Google Chrome > three dot (...) > Uninstall
- Delete leftover folders (important after System Restore because leftovers can keep the problem):
-
%LOCALAPPDATA%\Google\Chrome(or%LOCALAPPDATA%\Googlethen delete Chrome)-
C:\Program Files (x86)\Google\(if present) - Restart the PC, then download and install Chrome again from Google’s official site.
-
-
Repair system files
- Navigate to Command Prompt (Run as Administrator) > run:
DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
sfc /scannow
- Reboot afterwards.
I sincerely hope you understand that the initial steps I suggested may not have completely fixed the issue, as there may still be underlying causes that have not yet been identified. I am here to work closely with you, troubleshoot effectively, and explore every possible solution to ensure the best possible outcome.
