To extract images from a PDF, you would have to open the PDF in software that can edit that file format, like a full copy of Adobe Acrobat (not Reader), Adobe Illustrator or Adobe PhotoShop.

You can extract images from a Word file by downloading the file to a Windows computer, changing the file ending to .zip, expanding the zip file, then looking in the word\media folder.

In Word for the web there is no direct command to “download all images” from a PDF that was created from a Word document. Use one of these approaches instead:

1. If the original Word document is still available
   • Open the original document in the Word desktop app.
   • Save it as a web page so Word extracts all embedded images:
     1. Select File > Save as Web Page.
     2. In Save as type, choose Web Page (*.htm; *.html).
     3. Save the file.
   • Word creates an .htm file and a folder named <DocumentName>_files in the same location. That folder contains all embedded images as separate files.
2. If only the PDF is available
   • Open the PDF in the Word desktop app so its content can be copied:
     1. In Word desktop, select File > Open and browse to the PDF.
     2. Word converts the PDF into an editable document.
   • Then either:
     • Right‑click each image and use Save as Picture (Word desktop or Word on macOS) to save it as a separate file, or
     • Save as a web page as described above to extract all images at once.

Word for the web alone cannot perform the bulk image extraction; the desktop app is required for the “Save as Web Page” or “Save as Picture” options.
