Having issues with my microphone in Windows 11 Pro.

Can't seem to get the issue solved. The equipment is all good, just 1 year old. Need to solve issue. Some times the sound works for one thing and then not for another. I don't know how to work the settings to solve this issue.

Which microphone should I use, the USB or jack input? If possible, please provide your PC configuration.

If possible, access msinfo32.exe in the search bar, take a screenshot and post it here.

I have solved this issue. It it a USB input. It was not the issue. I had already checked. I had selected the mic as an output device instead of an input. It is working find. Thank you to everyone who provided advice for me to follow.
It sometimes works automatically for some devices which are set to work with certain apps. When I changed it to output, everything worked.

Thank you for reaching out to the Q&A forum.

If the microphone on your PC works in some apps but not others, the first thing to check is app and website permissions. Make sure microphone access is allowed for the affected apps or browsers.

Next, try running the built‑in troubleshooter via Settings > System > Troubleshoot > Other troubleshooters > Recording Audio > then apply any suggested fixes.

If the issue continues, please check Device Manager:

Open Device Manager

Press Win + X > Device Manager

In Device Manager, go to View > Show hidden devices, then expand:

Audio inputs and outputs

Sound, video and game controllers

If it is a laptop or desktop, if possible, could you provide the laptop model or your desktop configuration?

If possible, access msinfo32.exe in the search bar, take a screenshot and post it here.

Do you have any third-party antivirus software?
