Had an error trying to open Word "We're sorry but Word has run into an error preventing it from opening correctly"

Happens on excel too. Tried:

The repair it suggests

Uninstall (using troubleshooter too)

Reinstall - loads until it's almost finished then fails (tried offline install too)

Can't think of what to try next

    Hi @Steve Matejko

Thank you for reaching out to the Q&A Forum.

Based on the information you provided, I understand that both Word and Excel are failing to open with the error: “We’re sorry, but Word has run into an error preventing it from opening correctly.”

    You’ve already tried:

    • The suggested repair option
    • Uninstalling
    • Reinstalling

I’d like to clarify one thing first: When the error popup appeared, did you click “Repair Now” from that prompt? If yes, that typically runs a Quick Repair.

If that’s the case, please try performing a full Online Repair, which is more thorough:

    Also, could you confirm:

-Are you using a Business/Work account or a Personal account?

-Are you able to access Office apps via the web (Word Online/Excel Online)?

-Can you successfully sign in at:

Please make sure your license appears active and linked to your account.

Let me know the answers to the questions above, and I’ll guide you through the next step.
